Episode 41: Jim & Jodie Henderson on Building Beds & Changing Lives with Sleep in Heavenly Peace

Episode 41: Jim & Jodie Henderson on Building Beds & Changing Lives with Sleep in Heavenly Peace

In this episode of Between Two Doors, Nate Carver sits down with Jim Henderson & Jodie Foster of Sleep in Heavenly Peace TX-Melissa, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring no child sleeps on the floor. Jim shares how he and his wife, Jodie, brought this life-changing mission to our community, turning rough lumber into handcrafted beds complete with mattresses, pillows, and bedding for children who need them most. With 95 cents of every donated dollar going directly to beds, SHP has become a trusted name in restoring dignity and hope to families.

Listeners will hear how local volunteers, businesses, and organizations are already stepping up—and how you can too. Whether through building, delivering, donating, or sponsoring, there are countless ways to make an impact. Every $250 raised provides a full bed and bedding for a child, changing their sleep, health, and confidence. Don’t miss this inspiring episode as we spotlight Jim Henderson and the Melissa chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace. For more meaningful conversations like this, subscribe to Between Two Doors.

00:00:00:00 - 00:00:39:08
Nate Carver
Hey, it's Nate Carver, your favorite mortgage guy, on another episode of Between Two Doors. We met with a home inspector Jim here, Jim Henderson and his wife, Jodie Foster, and uncovered, a charity that they had been working for the past year. Plus. And I wanted to do a highlight episode about sleep in Heavenly peace. Ship or ship and, and just see what, just exposes y'all to a new, a new charity and what they're doing,

00:00:39:08 - 00:01:00:10
Nate Carver
Hey, I'm Nate Carver and welcome to Between Two Doors.

00:01:00:10 - 00:01:04:03
Nate Carver
Hey, Jim. Hey, Jodie. It's nice to see you all again.

00:01:04:05 - 00:01:04:22
Jim Henderson
Nice to be here.

00:01:04:22 - 00:01:07:21
Jodie Foster
Thank you. Thank you.

00:01:07:23 - 00:01:30:17
Nate Carver
So we talked about it on a podcast when we were doing the home inspection, with your company, Henderson Home Inspection. And let's talk about what you're doing with the charity. I'm gonna let you just start off. Tell me. Tell me the name of it. The 30,000ft view of what y'all do, and then we're going to dive into it.

00:01:30:19 - 00:02:00:23
Jim Henderson
Well, thank you for having us on again. I'm the president of a, 5013 city nonprofit organization that began in our chapter back in December here in Texas. Melissa. How Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Basically, what we do is we build beds for children, needy children, we take rough lumber two by four, two by six, one before, one by one by two.

00:02:01:00 - 00:02:28:10
Jim Henderson
We we have we have our own songs. Sanders. Girl presses. We work strictly on volunteers, and we build either a twin, single bed or a twin bunk bed. And when people are in need of a bed, they can go to our chapter. Request one after the vetting process goes, if everything goes right, then we will deliver a bed.

00:02:28:12 - 00:02:47:09
Jim Henderson
And what is really neat about is we don't just deliver the bed, we deliver the bed mattress, a pillow, sheets and a pillow case and a blanket. So that child is now our motto is no, no child, no kid sleeps on the floor in our town. So we get these children up off the floor and give them a good night's sleep.

00:02:47:11 - 00:02:54:03
Nate Carver
I love it. Where did y'all come into this? How did y'all find this?

00:02:54:05 - 00:03:19:02
Jim Henderson
Our pastor, our new pastor. Our church was, connected with one over in Whitesboro, where he used to be a pastor and back, I guess, in about November, December. He brought it up one day after your sermon, said, hey, you know, I heard about this and you interested in it. And my wife sitting there poking me in something like that, said, you need to do this.

00:03:19:02 - 00:03:36:22
Jim Henderson
And and so he said, anybody interested? So I raised my hand and we went on there for about a week or so, and they kept saying, well, what do you want to do? I said, I just want to be involved. And a few days later they called me back to where we have 4 or 5 places we love for you to be.

00:03:36:22 - 00:03:53:10
Jim Henderson
What would you like to do? I said, I really don't care. I just want to be involved. And so third time I can say, okay, we're down to five areas. Which one do you want? I said, look, just put me where you think you need me. You know where I can do the most good. You know, I think you know what y'all think.

00:03:53:12 - 00:04:07:21
Jim Henderson
Next thing I know, I'm on a plane to Salt Lake City, Utah for training, and I'm the president of the chapter, so it went, you know, within 3 to 4 weeks, I go from, hey, this is a good idea to being a president of a chapter and trying to learn about it.

00:04:07:23 - 00:04:09:00
Nate Carver
Wow.

00:04:09:02 - 00:04:35:06
Jim Henderson
It's really it's got a cool background. It started back in 2012. A gentleman the first, the first year, I mean, Luke saw a ad in, Facebook, Facebook or something like that. You know, it's right around Christmas time and it was a single parent. And mainly all they all they said was, all we want for Christmas is a bed for our child.

00:04:35:08 - 00:04:56:15
Jim Henderson
And so it kind of touched Luke and, and his sons went out. He had some lumber in the garage and they went out, broke a bed and bought a mattress and gave it to him. It went from that to some neighbor started building beds. Now, granted, it started in 2012. So it started from one bed in 2012.

00:04:56:17 - 00:05:24:23
Jim Henderson
Now we're in, now the chapter has grown to, over 350 active chapters across the nation. We're in four countries United States, Canada, Bermuda, Bahamas. I think last year there was something about 75,000 beds delivered. Wow. Since it started, there's been nearly a quarter of a million. It just it's grown. It's, you know, it's amazing. It's crazy.

00:05:25:00 - 00:05:46:02
Jodie Foster
And we're a very, very small cog in this giant wheel. But we serve animals. And so I know yeah, we're strictly it's a strictly volunteer organization except for the top tier national, organization, which, of course, we need at this level, participation by communities.

00:05:46:04 - 00:06:09:11
Jim Henderson
Only ever says top tier. You know, the top tier, even the top tier, everybody. There's so many volunteers in here. When we say top tier, a lot of people think, yeah, they're the ones that's making the money. And, you know, putting one thing about is HP is they've got this down to such a science now that 95, $0.95 of every dollar of this donated goes to the kids.

00:06:09:13 - 00:06:10:10
Nate Carver
Oh, wow.

00:06:10:14 - 00:06:12:16
Jim Henderson
$0.95 of every dollar.

00:06:12:16 - 00:06:15:24
Nate Carver
Pair that to. Well.

00:06:16:01 - 00:06:18:20
Jim Henderson
Maybe I've heard that too. Yeah. We won't say anybody.

00:06:18:22 - 00:06:20:06
Nate Carver
I won't say.

00:06:20:08 - 00:06:20:16
Jim Henderson
90.

00:06:20:19 - 00:06:30:03
Nate Carver
5% of your gift going directly to the person in need is. That's fantastic. That is. That is fantastic.

00:06:30:03 - 00:06:35:18
Jim Henderson
Even even our upper echelon is so much volunteer. It's it's it's not it's crazy.

00:06:35:21 - 00:07:01:16
Jodie Foster
And it's a labor of love for anybody. Yeah. The the thing that we have really been gratified about is that we've, we're trying to spread the word. And this being on your podcast is really helping immensely, to get the word out, because we want to let the families in the area know that this is a resource available to them, but also to let the community know we need your help.

00:07:01:18 - 00:07:33:12
Jodie Foster
This is strictly volunteer. We need donations. We need, volunteers. We need people in core team positions, to help with our funding finance, donations, deliveries, volunteer organization. We need storage. We need people that, like our quilts so far have been quilts that are made by, groups of organizations that make quilts and donate those, and they're beautiful.

00:07:33:12 - 00:07:36:06
Jodie Foster
We've been so grateful about that.

00:07:36:08 - 00:07:55:14
Nate Carver
So. So you service or your chapter is Anna, Texas. Melissa, Texas and so on. Salina, Texas. Okay. And tell me, what side is there a is it a standard size bed that y'all are making? Is it a twin or. I'm curious.

00:07:55:19 - 00:07:55:24
Jim Henderson
Is.

00:07:55:24 - 00:07:57:20
Nate Carver
There a structure here?

00:07:57:22 - 00:08:10:05
Jim Henderson
Yeah. We make it's a standard twin bed. Okay. So it's a twin bed and then we're going to make a twin bed. Either a twin a single, or we can make a twin bunk bed.

00:08:11:05 - 00:08:33:11
Jim Henderson
So that's a two. You know, we don't, vary from those sizes. You know, we that's that's what we got now. Okay. Yeah, but the mattresses have to be a certain width, you know, a certain girth. Anthony. Six inch mattresses. But like the bedding and things like that. Things. The beds are all the same size. Matters have to be a certain size.

00:08:33:13 - 00:08:53:18
Jim Henderson
As far as the bedding and the sheets. Pillowcase, I get all we ask if anybody wants to donate or help with that, they have to be very, generic. Yeah. You know, we boy girl. Not just specific gender, just very generic. We try to keep it nonreligious, you know, so we kind of use it across the board for everybody.

00:08:53:19 - 00:08:58:03
Jodie Foster
And and on top of that. So I agree.

00:08:58:05 - 00:09:26:15
Nate Carver
I so some of the, the quilts that y'all made or that your volunteers made. So there's a lot of ways people can volunteer to be a part of this, a part of what we're doing. So like, I know my, my mom, have my mom and a sister, both are quilters. They love making quilts. So, so want to make a quilt that would be making a quilt for twin size bed, right?

00:09:26:16 - 00:10:06:00
Nate Carver
So there's one thing someone could do and then somebody else, maybe they're good with a hammer, could volunteer and come help build the actual come and help build the bed so you can help build it. You can help deliver it, set it up. These are some opportunities also, I love it. Tell me what, In the area that you all are in, the three towns that y'all are doing this any any, any stories that you can relay or back to the audience of, of deliveries that y'all have done so far.

00:10:06:02 - 00:10:29:11
Jim Henderson
You know, we're we're we're still fairly new. We we delivered a very limited number of beds so far because mainly because we have I have the beds built and we're growing mainly because we've had a couple of, team bills with one of our, companies here and Anna did a team build was just this last Saturday.

00:10:29:11 - 00:10:59:06
Jim Henderson
We built 20 beds. And, this company, you know. Yeah, I'm selling it, neighborhood credit. Instagram. Yeah, we had a team build, so we went down to, Addison. Yeah, down off Montfort Street. And they had we had 37 volunteers. They they, donated all the lumber. We built 20 beds. So now I have 20 frames, but I've only got six mattresses, so I can say we're five and one.

00:10:59:06 - 00:11:14:20
Jim Henderson
Three say we do. Everything's now, you know, donations. So we're trying to set up these, six mattresses. We can get these out and get them done, but then I'm going to have to buy more mattresses, you know, and get more out. So we rely on donations for everything.

00:11:15:01 - 00:11:40:06
Nate Carver
Yeah. So are you, on the on the mattresses? We were short mattresses. Is there a price point cost to buy a mattress? You know what? That or is there an organization? I don't know if we can. I'm thinking. I'm just thinking a mattress firm or there's a couple of other organizations that other places right.

00:11:40:06 - 00:12:03:13
Jim Henderson
Now, we are we're we're we're buying our mattresses through ship. Yeah. They ship them to us in a square box. So they're pretty commercial. So first they they're in a box, you know, about a foot, a foot square about our long. They need the animation specifications. Now, any matches would work as long as is like 26 pages.

00:12:03:15 - 00:12:04:19
Nate Carver
Yeah.

00:12:04:21 - 00:12:09:17
Jim Henderson
Because that's our framework. But we'll ask you.

00:12:09:19 - 00:12:11:06
Nate Carver
Here.

00:12:11:08 - 00:12:31:10
Jim Henderson
Are we, we just. I guess we're rebooting here. But now, I have another, friend of mine that is on our bill team. He is also a, city councilman here, and and he's on our bill team, and he's talked to a friend of his has a mattress company. See if maybe we can work out some, you know.

00:12:31:12 - 00:12:33:04
Jodie Foster
But tell me what the cost to.

00:12:33:10 - 00:13:01:11
Jim Henderson
Do the and do a a bed build, list for the, say, the lumber alone for 20 beds. At today's prices, lumber alone is going to be around $2,500. So that's going to build 20 frames or ten bunk beds. Now, if you add in the cost of the mattresses, the bedding and things like that, you're looking at another 2500.

00:13:01:13 - 00:13:30:04
Jim Henderson
So to build 20 beds, you're looking at about $5,000 at today's cost. Now we have different ways you can do that. We have some people that just want to like neighborhood credit. They want to do the beds so they furnish all the lumber. Some people might want to just do a bedding drive and they just might want to do, you know, mattresses are sheets and pillowcases or donate blankets.

00:13:30:08 - 00:13:49:24
Jim Henderson
You know, we'll take it any way we can get it. I'll tell everybody I'm not above buying any of it. It's about the kid. It's all about the children. Yeah, yeah. You know, and we have when we have our bills right now, we're. I'm trying to get up enough lumber, have somebody we can do an open bill so I can open it to the public.

00:13:50:01 - 00:13:50:15
Jodie Foster
Which is fine.

00:13:50:15 - 00:14:13:19
Jim Henderson
Which is a lot of fun. Now, the one we had Saturday was great, but it was what we call a private bill because it was just for that company. But they had so much fun. It was, you know, we're running, radial arm shelves. We're running Sanders, we're running drill presses, we're running the staple guns. You know, they're measuring, right?

00:14:13:21 - 00:14:35:09
Jim Henderson
We make we make our own stain code. We stain everything. We make our stain out of, vinegar and steel wool. So it's totally nontoxic. So they're dipping boards in the stain and don't get the stain all over me. And everybody's laughing and having fun. It's it's it's it's really fun, you know, doing it. But, you know, Bill, building the bands is really fun.

00:14:35:14 - 00:14:55:07
Jim Henderson
And there's so many different ways that you get involved in it. You know, just by the donations or volunteering or, you know, we're looking for people to help volunteer with deliveries because, you know, a lot of people, no way they work. We just can't get volunteers together. Same time.

00:14:55:09 - 00:15:06:20
Nate Carver
So if you've got a tractor trailer, just you can show up and get a, you know, be a delivery and, you know, there's for one hour.

00:15:06:22 - 00:15:20:02
Jodie Foster
Yeah. There's so many ways that people can participate. Like if you go to our website and I'm sure you'll have the link to that, if you want to go in and say, like, you know, I want to buy a mattress, it's what, 75?

00:15:20:06 - 00:15:21:03
Jim Henderson
You're right about a hundred.

00:15:21:03 - 00:15:39:03
Jodie Foster
Dollars there, about $100 for a mattress, or I want to donate towards building a bed. And you donate so much or I want to do some bedding. We have a link to an Amazon wishlist or a Walmart wishlist, and they can go in and they can pick out the the bed in the back and donate that.

00:15:39:05 - 00:15:44:12
Jim Henderson
Or it'll be shipped straight to us, and then you'll get a, a receipt for donation.

00:15:44:16 - 00:16:08:04
Jodie Foster
Yeah. One of the other things that we think is, is really nice for the community and for our youth is that we do community hours, and we have kids that show up that have never used a power tool. And they're are so excited about learning how to use a drill or hands and or a saw, you know, which is exciting for them.

00:16:08:06 - 00:16:30:14
Jodie Foster
And then they get community hours for that as well. And, one of the things I want to emphasize, we have been sponsored by our church, which is United Methodist Families. And we kind of use that as our base. But the organization is not affiliated to any specific religion or church. We are open to everybody. In fact.

00:16:30:16 - 00:16:44:06
Jodie Foster
Gracepoint church here, Indiana, wants to do some things with us. We're trying to contact other church and say, you know, this is a great team opportunity for your churches or your youth to do. We have a youth bill that's coming up.

00:16:44:08 - 00:16:48:04
Jim Henderson
We have a youth bill for them, our two churches in August.

00:16:48:04 - 00:17:05:18
Jodie Foster
Yeah, that we're going to be doing, which is just the kids, you know, and they can be 12 or older with parent supervision. So we have all level of kids coming in and what a great experience. They have a ball. And to let them know, you know, this is something that they can do that's contributing to another child.

00:17:05:20 - 00:17:08:09
Jodie Foster
Yeah. It's it's extraordinary.

00:17:08:11 - 00:17:14:11
Nate Carver
Who else, have y'all partnered with locally right now?

00:17:14:11 - 00:17:29:21
Jim Henderson
One of our largest, sponsors right now is Lowe's. Lowe's and with a shop since the beginning. But they are a large sponsor with, where we're working right now with, Home Depot here and Anna.

00:17:29:23 - 00:17:30:08
Nate Carver
Went in and.

00:17:30:10 - 00:17:49:15
Jim Henderson
Just opened one of the, one of the big managers that for Sally Marie's is wanting to do a probably a team bill with their store manager. Oh. They want to do a team bill once it gets a little cooler. We're sponsored with, we're working with, Texas Roadhouse.

00:17:49:17 - 00:17:50:13
Nate Carver
Yeah.

00:17:50:15 - 00:18:09:00
Jim Henderson
They did a fundraiser for us, and now, a couple of their managers are relics. Excited now about maybe doing a team build out in their parking lot. Son, you know, and that's one, you know, we have. Yeah. It is. You know what? I'm trying to, we're working up to this with the H-e-b right now.

00:18:09:02 - 00:18:09:07
Jodie Foster
And.

00:18:09:07 - 00:18:28:19
Jim Henderson
And Melissa and you and Melissa, they have, they've already, sponsored the $5,000 for us. So they're going to do a full bill. We'll do a 20 bed build, you know, with matches and everything. So we're working the logistics out. Not sure the date yet or if we're going to go to them or they're coming to us.

00:18:28:19 - 00:18:52:00
Jim Henderson
We're not sure. But that's the other thing. We we travel. We have tried. So if somebody likes it. When we did neighborhood credit, we went to down off Montford. So I had one of my team had his the trailer with all the lumber on it. I had the trailer with all the tools on it, everybody else's car, caravan and down and we jump out like a bunch of idiots.

00:18:52:00 - 00:18:56:03
Jim Henderson
But we made it work and everybody had fun.

00:18:56:05 - 00:19:04:05
Nate Carver
Well, what kind of impact have y'all seen so far? In your in the community with what y'all are doing?

00:19:04:07 - 00:19:05:17
Jodie Foster
Oh gosh.

00:19:05:19 - 00:19:18:23
Jim Henderson
Nobody I would say disbelief. Yeah. People don't understand. People have never heard of STP. And then when we tell them about it.

00:19:19:00 - 00:19:20:06
Jodie Foster
It's like a light bulb and.

00:19:20:06 - 00:19:39:17
Jim Henderson
A light bulb went off, just like at our last build in Addison or Dallas. These people I was talking to, they were having a ball building the best. But then I start, tell them I said, you know, you know, about, how many children we have just in our chapter right now that are qualified for a band.

00:19:39:19 - 00:19:45:21
Jim Henderson
And it's like at our church that day when they say, what's the percentage.

00:19:45:21 - 00:19:47:08
Jodie Foster
Of the June 3rd percent?

00:19:47:10 - 00:19:48:03
Jim Henderson
3% of the.

00:19:48:03 - 00:19:49:05
Jodie Foster
Children they.

00:19:49:07 - 00:19:49:16
Jim Henderson
Don't have.

00:19:49:16 - 00:19:57:04
Jodie Foster
Is, in your community, each community, 3% of kids are sleeping on a cot or couch or the.

00:19:57:04 - 00:19:59:02
Jim Henderson
Floor or on a pile of dirty clothes.

00:19:59:07 - 00:20:00:02
Jodie Foster
Yeah.

00:20:00:04 - 00:20:13:21
Jim Henderson
And so you think about that. And you, this is 20, 25. Yeah. These children don't have beds. And so when I tell people that and they they can't believe it, you know, they, they're in disbelief that these children don't have beds.

00:20:13:23 - 00:20:39:06
Jodie Foster
Well, it's kind of a hidden issue. I mean, you see, you know, people you have school supply drives, you have coat drives, you have food drives, you know, after school programs for kids. This is kind of a hidden issue because you don't see inside people's homes. Right. And one of the things that we've started doing, we've partnered with, the Anna Fire Department, the police department, to give the information to them because they go and kids home.

00:20:39:08 - 00:20:57:17
Jodie Foster
We're going to be working with the Anna School District, and I'm hoping to get to Melissa and Saline as well, and talk to the counselors there and give them our information, because they're the ones that find out the need and and who needs, you know, about. And kids talk to them.

00:20:57:19 - 00:21:18:18
Jim Henderson
Do I, Jody, that you bring it up 2500 cards. And we took them down to the police department and fire department and just stayed here. And we we played it, of course, with everybody. And, chief Hale is all on board with this. Anna PD is all on board with fire department. They're great. And, you know, they said, yeah, give me my in the cards.

00:21:18:20 - 00:21:41:06
Jim Henderson
And, so whenever they go, if they see a need, they just drop a card. Holly has is at HP and she got a phone number, you know, and a QR code on the back. And that right there has got us connected with some more things. And Anna because there's another, officer here in Anna named Tony that is real big with the youth and back to school.

00:21:41:06 - 00:21:57:05
Jim Henderson
Back to now. Okay, so now we're in with him to get the word out. So, you know, we're we're helping him with his back to school bash. And he's helping us with this. And it's just it grows and snowball is snowball is. But you know it's it's a it's a fun snowball to watch role one.

00:21:57:08 - 00:22:08:21
Nate Carver
Yeah. So let's try to put a number to that. You said 3%. How many in in Anna. How many children is that.

00:22:09:00 - 00:22:28:23
Jim Henderson
Let me as of right now I looked at my, paperwork this morning. I have, I think 41 open cases, 41 at just the 41 open cases that I see right now are are asking for 112 beds.

00:22:29:00 - 00:22:31:17
Jodie Foster
Wow. That's just that's.

00:22:31:17 - 00:22:57:00
Jim Henderson
Just that's just me. Yeah. No, Dallas, I was looking at some, numbers this morning on our budgets. We have to send out a budget sheet or fill out a budget sheet each month. The Dallas chapter, of course, they're a lot bigger than me. Has budgeted for 50,000 this month. That's the $2,000 to help build beds. Wow. So I have my chapter here.

00:22:57:00 - 00:23:03:02
Jim Henderson
The next chapter is going to be there's one in Carrollton. There's a buddy. Mine's running one over in, Whitesboro.

00:23:03:04 - 00:23:04:04
Jodie Foster
Briscoe has.

00:23:04:06 - 00:23:11:15
Jim Henderson
Frisco has one. You know, it's just it's crazy about the need. Yeah, I.

00:23:11:17 - 00:23:15:21
Jodie Foster
Yeah, and it's not going to go away. This is going to be a little.

00:23:15:23 - 00:23:29:18
Nate Carver
What's your motivation? You're self-employed. You run Henderson home inspection was a full time career and then you're heading up a charity. What? What's driving you?

00:23:29:20 - 00:23:34:24
Jim Henderson
It's kids. They need a band.

00:23:35:01 - 00:23:36:22
Nate Carver
Yeah.

00:23:36:24 - 00:23:56:06
Jim Henderson
You know, I'm going to back up a little bit. You know, I told you about when you build that band is fun. It really is. You're you're sore on your cut and you're drilling. You're staining and all that. Yeah. I'm. But when you go to that delivery and you put that band together for that child, you see their face.

00:23:56:08 - 00:23:59:12
Jim Henderson
I tell you about it. That does not touch you, son. Drone.

00:23:59:14 - 00:24:01:07
Nate Carver
Yeah.

00:24:01:09 - 00:24:05:05
Jim Henderson
And I get choked up every time I say that.

00:24:05:07 - 00:24:09:14
Nate Carver
Yeah, I can see that. Wow, I.

00:24:09:16 - 00:24:34:12
Jim Henderson
I keep thinking I wrote a story whenever I was in Utah this lady was. I think she was a teacher. I tell you, I get choked up on holiday every time. So she was a teacher. She had seen a lot of hardships and all through her students. But she went on her first bed delivery or a bed delivery, and apparently it was like AA2 bedroom home, you know, it's like one on each side.

00:24:34:13 - 00:24:53:03
Jim Henderson
It was it was kind of a center room in the middle. And apparently the parents worked separate shifts. So the center of the house was always at new TVs. You know, everything's going on. So she's asking this one young man, she goes, where do you sleep? He goes, well, every third night I get to sleep in the bedroom.

00:24:53:05 - 00:24:54:09
Jim Henderson
She's. Excuse me.

00:24:54:11 - 00:24:55:06
Nate Carver
Wow.

00:24:55:08 - 00:25:11:24
Jim Henderson
Yeah, well, you know, we can all sleep in there to what do you sleep to watch? Sleep in there on the pile. And she goes. We. Yeah. Okay. You're gonna help me? Inform me about that. He goes, so he's three, but they they took turns sleeping in the other room so they could get a good night's sleep. She said, what do you mean?

00:25:11:24 - 00:25:19:04
Jim Henderson
On the pile? She goes. He said, well, we have a pile on a pile of dirty clothes. And she said she lost it.

00:25:19:06 - 00:25:20:21
Jodie Foster
Yeah.

00:25:20:23 - 00:25:42:16
Jim Henderson
And I went to my first one in Utah, and, this blond headed girl comes out. We can't we don't really ever column names. I just call them a little brother. Little sister. And she kept coming out, and she would touch the bed, and Roth, I mean, she looked like little Goldilocks. Just kids were little for 3 or 4 year old.

00:25:42:16 - 00:25:58:16
Jim Henderson
Blue had blown blond hair and she touch it and I said, okay, don't be a little sister. And she get a runaway valet right before she left. We left. She started taking her animals and stacking all her stuffed animals on it. We made it. Do?

00:25:58:18 - 00:26:01:05
Nate Carver
Yeah. Did I love it?

00:26:01:07 - 00:26:04:15
Jim Henderson
Yeah. It's it's that's that's the touching part.

00:26:04:17 - 00:26:14:12
Nate Carver
Yeah. How do how do the parents of these children find you? You were fine. Shit.

00:26:14:14 - 00:26:45:21
Jodie Foster
That's one of the things that we're trying to do is to get the word out by going to the police department, the fire department, the schools, people that know these kids and know these families and know where the need is. We also go to nonprofit events, and set up a booth so that parents can see us or families can see us or, you know, different organizations like people that work with abused kids or, we've had calls from caseworkers from CPS, that see the situation that kids are in.

00:26:45:21 - 00:27:11:14
Jodie Foster
We have, other organizations that are, battered women or you know, veterans organizations, anybody that has any kind of organization that would come across kids and ascertain what the need is. And we're trying to get us our information out, even as large as this organization, as a lot of people have never heard us, we'd never heard of SHC before December of last year.

00:27:11:16 - 00:27:13:04
Jodie Foster
So,

00:27:13:06 - 00:27:15:10
Jim Henderson
The thing is, we cannot contact the family.

00:27:15:10 - 00:27:16:19
Jodie Foster
No.

00:27:16:21 - 00:27:37:23
Jim Henderson
We do know the family has contacted us. That's why we we're trying to get the word out to as many people as we can about this organization. And even if they call us and say, oh, we're in so-and-so, I'm out of the town, I may not, take care of that town or deliver to that town, but I'm going to tell you what, I'm going to get you someone who can.

00:27:38:00 - 00:27:42:05
Jim Henderson
And even if I can't, if I've got an extra bed and you need one, I'm gonna try to get it to you.

00:27:42:07 - 00:28:07:10
Jodie Foster
Yeah. One of the things the way that people get Ahold of us is they go to the website. There is an application the family has to fill out the application themselves. Right. Because they know their information. Everything is is very, private. We want to keep that confidentiality for people. So they're they're comfortable coming to that website to fill out the information.

00:28:07:12 - 00:28:23:20
Jodie Foster
And then we can beat that and make sure. But once they go to the website, they can enter their zip code or their town to see if there's an organization. And we are limited to the zip codes that we serve. But if they're in another ZIP code or another city, they can look to see if that area served.

00:28:23:21 - 00:28:26:10
Jim Henderson
Oh, we'll try one more time.

00:28:26:12 - 00:28:50:10
Nate Carver
Okay. So tell me, what is, what's the best way for if somebody wants to volunteer and if you want to help, if you want to contribute to buy a bed, build a bed for 250 bucks, you can get a bed, a mattress, sheets, blanket and a pillow. How can they best get Ahold of you all?

00:28:50:12 - 00:28:56:18
Jim Henderson
I want to say, if you put our information up on that board, I will scan that QR code. Yeah.

00:28:56:20 - 00:28:58:24
Jodie Foster
I've been having, like, peace storm.

00:28:59:02 - 00:29:00:17
Jim Henderson
Yeah. You go to sleep in every place, dot.

00:29:00:18 - 00:29:27:19
Jodie Foster
Overnight and inner, Melissa, Texas. You can. Like I said, you can look it up. There's a search thing and you go to our website and it has little buttons on there. Donate, volunteer, sponsor if they want to volunteer, if they click on that volunteer button, they can register to be a volunteer. And then when we do have, a bad build or delivery that's happening, they'll get notified.

00:29:27:21 - 00:29:35:09
Jodie Foster
And if they're available or want to participate in that, they can say, yes, I want to participate. And they sign up for that.

00:29:35:11 - 00:29:53:03
Nate Carver
